Wind energy is utilized by wind turbines; which convert the wind’s kinetic energy into electricity. When the sun’s rays unevenly heat the uneven surface of the earth as the earth spins, it creates wind. So, for as long as our planet is heated we will have wind.
In commercial sized wind turbines, wind energy costs 1.3 million USD per megawatt. Every wind turbine has about 2-3 megawatts of power. So, every wind turbine costs $2.6-$3.9 million in energy alone. Maintenance and Operation costs about $42,000-$48,000. To install a wind turbine for a single-family home, you can expect to use 5-15 kilowatts and spend about 15-75 thousand dollars installing a small wind turbine. It may sound like a lot of money, but over time, it pays itself back in price and even saves you money.
In America the average household will spend $2,265 on electricity. Over 13 years, the average length of homeownership in America, you could spend $29,445 on energy alone. As previously stated, if you have an average amount of energy consumption, you could get a wind turbine for $15,000 and have a perfectly normal expenditure of energy. The years needed to break even using wind energy versus buying your energy is 7, with the average American household spending $15,855. Thus, If you plan on spending more than 7 years in your home, it can very easily be considered more cost-effective to switch to wind energy.
Wind energy has many advantages with only a few disadvantages. The disadvantages are that if you find anything wrong in a maintenance checkup (which should happen 1-2 times per year) it can be a very costly expense to put on top of the established minimum of $15,000 to put up a wind turbine. Furthermore, wind turbines are pretty useless if there is no wind. So most times, wind turbines have to be put in high-altitude places which are often secluded. The main advantage of wind energy is that it is a clean way to produce electricity without harming the atmosphere. Wind energy is also cheaper in the long run for homeowners. Over the span of 7 years, the cost to initially set up a small wind turbine is cheaper than buying energy for that same 7 years. Another is that you don’t really have to worry about the wind turbine after you put in the money and work needed to set it up, the only exception to this would be if you ran into problems during a maintenance check.
Wind turbines have many applications. To lower the cost of electricity, businesses, homeowners, warehouses, and factories can use wind turbines to lower the cost of electricity. Factories and warehouses should especially be kept aware of this. In 2022, 37% of the global electricity was used for industrial purposes. Switching to wind energy reduces a company’s/homeowner’s pollutants put into the air. So as a business owner/homeowner with values of keeping the atmosphere safe, it would be very useful to make the switch to renewable, clean energy, particularly wind energy.
Wind energy is a clean and renewable source of energy. The propellers that create electricity are turned from wind which is a byproduct of the sun’s heat. It is cheaper on average than buying energy from a company after the 7 year mark. So, planning to set up a wind turbine for personal use in one’s estate if the person doesn’t plan on staying there for more than 7 years is financially inefficient unless you value the renewable, clean energy aspect of wind turbines. Wind energy is a valuable asset to the production of electricity that is readily available to cultivate at any time.
